Exam Ref 70-413: Designing and Implementing a Server Infrastructure

Exam Ref 70-413: Designing and Implementing a Server Infrastructure PDF Download Ebook. Steve Suehring shows real-world mastery of enterprise server design and implementation. Designed for experienced, MCSA-certified professionals ready to advance their status, this text focuses on the critical-thinking and decision-making acumen needed for success at the MCSE level.

Steve Suehring has been working with the Windows Server family in a professional capacity since NT 4. Steve’s experience includes Windows Server in an Internet hosting environment and a large-scale Windows Server deployment at a Fortune 1000 company. Steve has co-authored several Windows Server books and certification titles, including the Windows Server 2008 70-646 Training Kit.

Readers of this book are arguably experienced skilled System Administrators who are planning to take the 70-413 exam which counts as credit toward the MCSE certification. This means that you will probably not have a deep understanding of all topics described in this book, unless you have successfully achieved the MCSA certification or alternatively you have a corresponding job experience.

Main situations described in this book refer to advanced and complex configuration scenarios but, thanks to a good organization of the chapters, everyone without an MCSA certification who is willing to have a firmer understanding of particular topics of Windows Server 2012 can refer to specific chapters of this book. What I really liked in this book is that the author provides many links pointing to external study materials; this can result particularly useful if you want more information about a specific topic.

A Practical Guide to Fedora and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6e

A Practical Guide to Fedora and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6th Edition PDF Download Ebook. Mark G. Sobell explains Linux clearly and effectively, focusing on skills you’ll actually use as a user, programmer, or administrator. Now an even more versatile learning resource, this edition adds skill objectives at the beginning of each chapter.

Sobell assumes no prior Linux knowledge. He starts at the beginning and walks you through every topic and task that matters, using easy-to-understand examples. Step by step, you’ll learn how to install and configure Linux from the accompanying DVD, navigate its graphical user interface, provide file/print sharing, configure network servers, secure Linux desktops and networks, work with the command line, administer Linux efficiently, and even automate administration with Perl scripts.

Mark Sobell has taught hundreds of thousands of Linux and UNIX professionals. He knows every Linux nook and cranny—and he never forgets what it’s like to be new to Linux. Whatever you want to do with Linux—now or in the future—you’ll find it here.

This book is a very useful tool for anyone who wants to ‘look under the hood’ so to speak, and really start putting the power of Linux to work. What I find particularly frustrating about man pages is that they never include examples. Sobell, on the other hand, outlines very clearly what the command does and then gives several common, easy-to-understand examples that make it a breeze to start shell programming on one’s own. As with Sobell’s other works, this is simple, straightforward, and easy to read. It’s a great book and will stay on the shelf at easy arm’s reach for a long time.

Unix and Linux: Visual QuickStart Guide 4th Edition

Unix and Linux: Visual QuickStart Guide 4th Edition PDF Download Ebook. Deborah S. Ray and Eric J. Ray use step-by-step instructions and plenty of screenshots, and includes three years worth of new material based on the latest Unix developments. This reference guide details all Unix commands and options along with tips that put those commands in context.

Leading Unix authorities Deborah S. Ray and Eric J. Ray leverage their expertise as technical writers and working in the industry (Sun Microsystems) as they take readers step-by-step through the most common Unix commands and options. By reading this text, readers can start from the beginning to get a tour of the Unix operating system, or look up specific tasks to learn just what they need to know.

Authors introduce you to three of the most common editors: pico (and nano comes along for free), vi, and emacs. They launch a general overview of each, and then discuss some how-tos of using each one. With the information presented here, you'll be able to choose an editor based on your needs and get started using it (or using all of them).

I got hired for a job where I spend almost everyday working in a Unix/Linux environment and I had very little knowledge of how to get around the system. In the week I had off between jobs I picked up this book and a book on Apache 2 and first day I went in I hit the ground running, even knowing a couple things my co-workers did not. That greatly put my mind to ease.

I'm still looking to move up into the soon to be available admin position though, so that means I'm starting in on the next book, but this one was a perfect quick read to get one acquainted with the non-admin functions of Unix and how it works. I highly recommend this book for beginners with Unix and Linux.

Programming the Raspberry Pi: Getting Started with Python

Programming the Raspberry Pi: Getting Started with Python PDF Download Ebook. Simon Monk shows how to set up hardware and software, write and debug applications, create user-friendly interfaces, and control external electronics. Do-it-yourself projects include a hangman game, an LED clock, and a software-controlled roving robot.

You can create innovative programs and fun games on your tiny yet powerful Raspberry Pi. In this book, electronics guru Simon Monk explains the basics of Raspberry Pi application development, while providing hands-on examples and ready-to-use scripts.

By reading this book, you are able to boot up and configure your Raspberry Pi, navigate files, folders, and menus, create Python programs using the IDLE editor, work with strings, lists, and functions, use and write your own libraries, modules, and classes, add Web features to your programs, develop interactive games with Pygame, interface with devices through the GPIO port, build a Raspberry Pi Robot and LED Clock.

Author tells you all you need to know to get you started programming you Raspberry Pi in Python. It includes chapters on graphical user interfaces with Tkinter, as well as games programming with pygame. Three chapters of the book are devoted to using the GPIO connector and attaching electronics to the Raspberry Pi. Example projects include an LED clock and a Pi controlled robot rover.

This text could have had ‘and Functions’ added to its title but it was already long enough. In this chapter, you will first explore and play with the various ways of representing data and adding some structure to your programs in Python. You will then put it all together in the simple game Hangman. Author shows how to use and make our own modules such as the ‘random’ module that we used in the last chapter.

This book will also explain how Python implements something called object-orientation. Object-orientation allows programs to be structured into classes, each responsible for their own behavior. This helps to keep a check on the complexity of our programs and generally makes them easier to manage.

The Linux Command Line: A Complete Introduction Ebook

The Linux Command Line: A Complete Introduction PDF Download Ebook. William E. Shotts Jr. takes you from your very first terminal keystrokes to writing full programs in Bash, the most popular Linux shell. Along the way you'll learn the timeless skills handed down by generations of gray-bearded, mouse-shunning gurus: file navigation, environment configuration, command chaining, pattern matching with regular expressions, and more.

In addition to that practical knowledge, author William Shotts reveals the philosophy behind these tools and the rich heritage that your desktop Linux machine has inherited from Unix supercomputers of yore. As you make your way through the book's short, easily-digestible chapters, you'll learn how to create and delete files, directories, and symlinks.

This book offers guidelines to administer your system, including networking, package installation, and process management, use standard input and output, redirection, and pipelines, edit files with Vi, the world's most popular text editor, write shell scripts to automate common or boring tasks, slice and dice text files with cut, paste, grep, patch, and sed.

Once you overcome your initial "shell shock," you'll find that the command line is a natural and expressive way to communicate with your computer. Just don't be surprised if your mouse starts to gather dust. This is exactly what a Linux beginner needs to get up to speed quickly. The book goes beyond simply walking through all of the command line utilities, and ventures into the realm of theory and how things work together.
